Current Gallery: photography ( piece)
I've been working as a professional artist in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, West Wales (U.K.) since 1981 and from 2006 to 2009 studied for and completed my B.A. in Fine Art, with Honours, at Trinity University College, Carmarthen – please see my Paintings Gallery for further details. My Photography Gallery contains images of some of my Land Art, completed for the National Trust in Wales as well as other eye-catching views but, for the most part, the images here are digitally enhanced works with a post-modern theme. These post-modern works tend to be (mostly) monochrome but some have one or more objects within them highlighted in their natural colour. The significance of these highlighted objects is left for the viewer to decide and, of course, each viewer will come away with a different story. In this way I have tried to engage with you, the art collector, to create a unique and collaborative work. In other images I have played with the resilience of Shadows and Reflections. This is a series of artworks displaying a mono image (blacks through greys to white) where I explore the possibility of shadows and reflections existing without the need for the original 'shadow-casting' body. This idea was originally suggested to me when I read of the permanent 'shadows' left after the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb blasts at the end of World War II. Victims caught in the open by the heat blast momentarily cast a shadow onto any nearby wall or building so that, as the instantaneous blast of heat passed, the cooler part of the wall, protected by their body, maintains their images to this day. Taking this a step further I wondered what the world would look like if all shadows and reflections remained after the 'casting-body' had departed, or even if no such body were needed to cast the original image in the first place. Other studies approach the idea of removing a familiar object from people's hands (in one instance a book) to show a story that has, literally, no narrative left within it – and a series of images depicting a suggested 'story' at mid-point – though no story was imaged on my part, so that the creation of any such narrative is, again, left to be moulded by the life experiences that you, the viewer, have at their disposal. Life is full of these 'disconnected signifiers' and we all learn to weave our way amongst them, making the best sense we can.
