Lotus Painting with Ancient Poem
There is a perfect unison of painting, poetry and calligraphy in Chinese art. Here I have painted a lotus to complement an ancient Chinese poem written in my grass calligraphy. This is an ancient Tang Dynasty poem about a heavenly beauty. It is so famous and beautifully written that the when the American cosmetic company of Revlon looking for a Chinese translated name, they took it from this poem (the last 3 characters of the second column from the right, which means Dew Laden Beauty) Poem: The Beautiful Lady Yang by Li Bai. Translation: Amongst the clouds I see her dress and in the flowers I see her face; The spring breeze caresses her dew laden beauty. If the Jade Mountain is not the meeting place, she's the goddess under the moon I see.
